Researching the Impacts of Infrastructure Projects

Dhanbad is one of the largest industrial towns of Jharkhand and is known as the Coal Capital of India, with nearly half of area under Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) is allocated for coal mines.

Part of proceeds of a proposed loan from the World Bank is meant for the improvement of road network including the development of junctions, and public transport. The Project is conceived based on the Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Dhanbad, and extensive consultations with multiple-stakeholders.

The NYU Wagner team was tasked with the responsibility to conduct extensive research on the impacts of urban infrastructure development projects, performed a series of visits to all sites involved in Phase 1 of Dhanbad Roads Project and produced the following recommendations.
